Deine Aufgaben

Bei ellamind entwickeln wir eine bahnbrechende Plattform, die es Unternehmen ermöglicht, KI-Anwendungen schneller zu verbessern und effizienter zu nutzen, um ihre Prozesse zu automatisieren. Im Rahmen des OpenEuroLLM-Projekts arbeiten wir an Europas nächster Generation von Foundation Models. Als AI Researcher / Research Engineer gestaltest du die Zukunft von LLM-Evaluierungs- und Trainingsmethoden mit. In Zusammenarbeit mit Europas führenden Forschungseinrichtungen und KI-Unternehmen hilfst du dabei, ellamind als Knowledge Leader im Bereich LLM-Training und -Evaluierung zu positionieren. Zu deinen Aufgaben gehören:

Mitwirkung an Forschungsprojekten in folgenden Bereichen:
- LLM-Evaluierung und Benchmarking, einschließlich Entwicklung neuer Benchmarks und Evaluierungs-Workflows
- Mehrsprachige LLMs und mehrsprachige Evaluierung
- LLMs für Datenannotation und -bewertung (LLM-as-a-judge), Reward Models
- Synthetische Daten
- Pre- und Post-Training von Open-Source-LLMs
Automatisierung und Optimierung von KI-Workflows, Skalierung von Workflows auf großen GPU-Clustern
Erforschung innovativer Ansätze im Bereich multimodaler KI-Systeme (Text, Bild, Audio)
Einbindung von Forschungsergebnissen und Erkenntnissen in unsere Produkte

Dein Profil

Du hast einen hervorragenden Abschluss in Informatik, Machine Learning, Data Science (bevorzugt PhD) oder einem verwandten Bereich und/oder kannst vergleichbare Fähigkeiten durch hochkarätige öffentliche persönliche Projekte oder Berufserfahrung nachweisen - wir schätzen nicht die Länge der Erfahrung, sondern die herausragende Qualität deiner Arbeit, die du wiederholt in deiner Laufbahn und/oder deinen Projekten unter Beweis gestellt hast.
Praktische Erfahrung mit LLMs wie GPT, Claude oder Open-Source-Alternativen und ein tiefes Verständnis der technischen Grundlagen hinter diesen Modellen
Solide Kenntnisse in Python und Erfahrung mit DL-Frameworks wie PyTorch, TensorFlow, Jax oder ähnlichen.
Du hast Erfahrung mit dem Open-Source-(LLM-)Ökosystem.
Idealerweise hast du Erfahrung mit LLM-Evaluierungs-Frameworks wie lm-eval-harness oder light-eval
Idealerweise hast du Erfahrung mit Multi-GPU-Setups oder sogar GPU-Clustern.
Du bist leidenschaftlich an KI-Forschung und deren Anwendungen interessiert und bist ein echter Problemlöser.
Du sprichst fließend Englisch (mindestens C1-Niveau); fließende Deutschkenntnisse sind ein Plus; fließende Kenntnisse in jeder anderen Sprache sind ein Plus (wir arbeiten an mehrsprachigen LLMs).
Du bist bereit, mindestens 3 Tage/Woche vor Ort in unserem Bremer Büro zu arbeiten (mit der Perspektive, mittelfristig in unser geplantes Berliner Büro zu wechseln).
Du hast eine EU-Arbeitserlaubnis.

Your tasks

At ellamind, we are developing a groundbreaking platform that enables companies to improve AI applications more quickly and use them more efficiently to automate their processes. Within the OpenEuroLLM project, we work on Europe’s next generation of foundation models. As an AI Researcher / Research Engineer, you will shape the future of LLM evaluation and training methods. Collaborating with Europe's leading research institutions and AI companies, you will help position ellamind as a knowledge leader in LLM training and evaluation. Your responsibilities include:

Contributing to research projects in the following areas:
- LLM evaluation and benchmarking, including development of new benchmarks and evaluation workflows
- Multilingual LLMs and multilingual evaluation
- LLMs for data annotation and rating (LLM-as-a-judge), reward models
- Synthetic data
- Pre- and post-training of state-of-the-art open-source LLMs
Automating and optimizing AI workflows, scaling workflows on large GPU clusters
Exploring innovative approaches in the field of multimodal AI systems (text, image, audio)
Incorporating research findings and insights into our products

Your profile

You have an advanced degree (preferably PhD) in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field, and/or can demonstrate comparable skills through high-profile personal projects or professional experience - we value not the length of experience, but the outstanding quality of your work that you have repeatedly demonstrated throughout your career and/or projects.
Practical experience with LLMs such as GPT, Claude, or open-source alternatives and a deep understanding of the technical foundations behind these models
Solid knowledge of Python and experience with DL frameworks such as PyTorch, Tensorflow, Jax or similar.
You have experience with the open-source (LLM) ecosystem.
Ideally, you have experience with LLM evaluation frameworks such as lm-eval-harness or light-eval
Ideally, you have experience working with multi-GPU setups or even GPU clusters.
You are passionate about AI research and its applications and are a genuine problem solver.
You are fluent in English (minimum C1 level); fluency in German is a Plus; fluency in any other language, is a Plus (we work on multilingual LLMs).
You are willing to work at least 3 days/week on-site at our Bremen office (with the perspective of transitioning to our planned Berlin office in midterm).
You have EU work authorization.
